Born on 20 February 1966, Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia enrolled as an advocate on 4 July 1988.
Professional Practice
Before his elevation, he practised before the Supreme Court of India; the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana, and Chhattisgarh; the Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunal; the Debts Recovery Tribunal; the Central Administrative Tribunal; and the State Administrative Tribunal.

He served as Deputy Government Advocate, Government Advocate and Deputy Advocate General. He was Standing Counsel for Lokayukt/SPE and Special Public Prosecutor for CID, Nagpur.
